Who decides your income?

So who really decides your income - who decides which clients you will aquire and which client will reject you? I will tell you a true interesting story that happened to me and you can decide for yourself. I am not going to use real company names since it is irrelevant for the story.

Here is what happened: I was searching for some projects online - I went to check out a few of the groups/lists which I am subscribed to. Bingo! I noticed a company looking for a designer - but something about the job description made me decide not to reply to the post. For my story we will call the company Dreamworx. A week later I am chating on skype with a friend who also does web design and he said he has a pottential client who needs a design and he wants to outsource the work to me. I asked him the name of the company...he answered Dreamworx. I didnt mention to him that I had seen the same posting earlier, and decided not to reply.. rather, I sent him a price quote and waited to see what happens. Maybe I would be the designer of this project after all.

A week passed...and than another....He never got back to me. I assume the project fell through. It turns out that it did.

But of course ... Two weeks later I get a call from a past client of mine, who was also looking to outsourse design work to me....She says "Aaron Do you have time for a nice project. I said - sure what is it? She said "we got a new client - Dreamworx, Are you interested?"

By this time It was obvious that I was going to do this project . Yet - I didnt havce much control over it . There must have been a more powerful decision maker involved.

Have you ever thought for a moment that you have more control than you actually do? Do we give ourselves too much credit for our successes?

To me it is seems clear that G-d decides our income. So if you are a workaholic...and believe that the harder you work the more you will make....and you feel like you are working too hard....than you probably are...and here is some good advice...take it easy. Slow down ..Try to fit something more meaningful into your busy daily schedule......and realize that G-d has it all under control.

Easier said than done(-;
