I'm 28 years old, married to the beautiful Meira
(Harow), with 1 lovely daughter, Simcha Tiferet, a.k.a. Sami.
I made aliya 5 years ago after college (Columbia University School
of Engineering), and have served in the Israeli Army (Tzahal) and
reserves.
I've been involved with web development and
entrepreneurship since the age of 15, having built-up 2 web-based
businesses prior to JobShuk, and worked for several other companies
on both full-time and freelance bases.

Why outsource?
The decision to outsource is often made in the interest of
lowering firm costs, redirecting or conserving energy directed at
the competencies of a particular business, or to make more
efficient use of labor, capital, technology and resources (Wikipedia). In my own words, outsourcing allows
businesses of any size to take advantage of highly-skilled
professionals for specific work without incurring the overhead
costs of employing these professionals full-time.
Why Israel?
The alarming numbers of poverty, hunger, and unemployment in
Israel are incongruous with the advanced, democratic, and
technically advanced society which we are developing. The
country-wide financial benefit of exporting the services of
Israel’s unique population of educated, native foreign-language
speakers is well-known.
If you're not familiar, Israel - the homeland to the Jewish people
- has been attracting Jews previously scattered across the globe to
return home since its renewal 60 years ago. While not yet at it's
tipping point, immigrants in Israel (including 2nd generation) make
up a majority of the population, and immigration is steadily
increasing as conditions improve.
Immigrants, such as those from North America, speak English on a
mother-tongue level, accent-free, and have a cultural knowledge
that makes business and communication feel like you're dealing with
the guy next door.
Why JobShuk?
JobShuk.com is a premiere Web 2.0 venture, with
goals of expanding the client base of Israeli freelancers and
service providers into the global market by creating an Online job
marketplace. My role is founder and CTO.
Few organizations have previously exploited
Israel's unique population, and has never been organized in a
simple, user-friendly way for individuals and small businesses.
Past attempts at Web-based outsourcing have tried to charge for
every transaction made, turning off users from even registering to
the site. The philosophy behind JobShuk is as follows:
- Open Marketplace - Our system provides free access to all basic
resources, focusing on spreading the benefits of employment to
all.
- Upfront Business Practices – To develop trust and buyer
satisfaction, JobShuk encourages and facilitates personal
expression, through business blogs and advice forums. The system
demands upfront business practices, such as clear pricing and
deadlines, and easy, open communication between the buyers and
sellers.
- Democratize Tools – Our site integrates many popular and useful
technologies, making Fortune 500 tools accessible to the mass
market, helpful in reaching and converting interested parties into
satisfied paying clients.
When developing an Online marketplace, we need
to anticipate both a seller’s market and a buyer’s market, and
create tools to take the buyer from the initial interest stage
through the final payment stage of the transaction. Our vision for
such a marketplace is based on:
- Trust – Both the buyers and sellers need a location to set up
shop and establish presence and credibility. This is achieved via
tools such as a fully customizable business card page, a business
blog, and prior feedbacks and ratings.
- Relationship – Either buyer or seller can initiate contact by
searching through seller profiles or bidding on buyer opportunity
postings respectively.
- Tools - The project can optionally be managed through the site
with messaging and final deliverable capability, where applicable.
This keeps the data centralized to ensure that communication is not
lost in the pipeline, and brings advanced tools to the small
businesses who could never afford to develop their own
systems.
- Community - Whereas competitive technologies limit
communication out of fear that direct contact between the parties
will bypass their percentages, we reward communication and
community building, both within and outside of specific projects,
with more exposure and better search ranking.
- Extras - For those who are looking for faster exposure, more
advertising, and more technological features, we offer paid
services to accommodate. These features will cover the costs of the
free service, giving comparable advantages to both the well-funded
organizations and the talented professionals.
